Nabothian Cysts

Why Choose Florida Hospital?

A benign condition, nabothian cysts appear on the cervix. While a mucus-filled lump on the cervix usually does not cause problems, it may require treatment if the cysts grow large enough to interfere with the function of the cervix. Women’s services at Florida Hospital provide treatment for patients with nabothian cysts and other female-specific conditions. Our team detects, diagnoses and treats the condition when necessary to help patients maintain the highest level of wellness. Schedule your appointment today.

Often detected during a pelvic exam or pap smear, nabothian cysts are small, fluid-filled lumps on the cervix. The cervix is located on the lower end of the uterus. It secretes mucus out of the lining glands. Sometimes, squamous epithelium cells (a type of skin cell) cover and plug the glands, causing the smooth, rounded nabothian cyst to form.

For most patients, nabothian cysts do not cause any symptoms and are usually discovered during routine exams. They are benign and do not require treatment. On rare occasions, the nabothian cyst grows too large and needs to be drained.

Florida Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest level of care for patients. We understand that women have specific needs. Through our comprehensive women’s services, our team cares for each woman through routine screening, health care and disease prevention. Our goal is to help our patients reach their highest level of wellness.
