Bereavement Support Group - Florida Hospital HospiceCare

After the loss of your loved one, you may feel alone in your grief. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies and invite you to be a part of our Bereavement Support Group. This six-week program is hosted by Florida Hospital HospiceCare and is offered at various times and locations to meet your needs. Free individual counseling is also provided as needed.

Bible Study – The Conversation

The Conversation is a gathering of friends and guests who meet Saturday mornings at 9:30 am to share our learning and encouragement in this interactive Bible study group. We follow the Bible as our guide and encourage each other as we grow in our faith in Christ. Our desire is to be an active part of Christ's healing ministry. We invite you to come join us at our weekly gathering and prayer service. We meet every Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am

Cancer - Living with Cancer

Whether you’re a patient, survivor or caregiver, this is your opportunity to talk about the day-to-day challenges of living with cancer in a group of people who can inspire, relate to and support you along your journey. This group meets on the third Thursday of every month from 3 to 4 pm.

Cancer - Look Good, Feel Better

Women undergoing cancer treatments can still feel comfortable with the way they look. During this session, our trained cosmetologists teach female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society, this group meets on the first Monday of every other month from 1 to 3 pm.

Cancer - Breast Cancer Support Group

When the diagnosis of breast cancer is given, you may be in need of information, resources and support to meet the challenges you face.  Join breast cancer patients and survivors for support and encouragement throughout your journey with cancer. Speakers will be scheduled for every other month. This group meets on the second Monday of every month from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.

Cancer - Lung Cancer Support Group

If you’ve been diagnosed with lung cancer, you might have physical needs and emotional concerns distinct from other cancer patients. The Comprehensive Cancer Center is here to provide a safe and open environment to share your experiences and struggles. We will connect you with local and national resources to aid during your time of need. Our lung cancer support group is the only one of its kind in Volusia and Flagler counties. This group meets on the third Tuesday of every month from 2 to 4 pm.

Cancer- I Can Cope

I Can Cope is a series of educational classes for people facing cancer. It is available online or in person at the Cancer Institute. The program is provided by the American Cancer Society and facilitated by a trained clinician. The classes are held monthly (14 in total) on the first Wednesday of the month from 2pm-3:30pm in the Cancer Institute’s Large Conference Room.  There is no charge to attend and registration is not required. Topics include managing the effects of cancer treatment, nutrition, community resources, communication, emotional support, and caregiving.

Cardiopulmonary - Young at Heart/Better Breathers

This cardiopulmonary support group for respiratory and cardiac patients meets on the first Thursday each month (except June, July and August) at 10 am.

Diabetes - Diabetes Support Group

The Diabetes Support Group is open to the public for those who have diabetes and their caregivers. Led by one of our diabetes educators, topics include nutrition, medications, new monitoring devices, research updates and the emotional aspects of diabetes. The group is free to attend. RSVP is not required.

The Diabetes Support Group is held every month (except July and August) at two locations:

  • Daytona Beach: Join us on the second Thursday of the month (except July and August) from 10 to 11 am in the Center for Health & Wellness, Suite 100, of the Medical Office Building at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, located at 305 Memorial Medical Parkway, Daytona Beach. 
  • Palm Coast: Join us on the first Thursday of the month (except July and August) from 9 to 10 am in Classroom A at Florida Hospital Flagler, located at 60 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast.

Kidney Disease - Kidney Smart

In this free monthly class, patients with kidney disease can learn from expert educators about how your kidneys function and the best ways to manage your diet and health. Participants will learn about

  • Causes of chronic kidney disease
  • How medications, diet and nutrition work together to help keep you healthy
  • How to manage other related health conditions, including diabetes and hypertension
  • How to continue educating yourself and what treatment choices are available

Nicotine Anonymous

The Nicotine Anonymous meeting is held every Tuesday at 7PM for one hour in the Health Care Partners room on the first floor at Florida Hospital Oceanside.  The meeting is open to all individuals who have the desire to quit smoking or wish to stay smoke free.   It is a free support group.

Smoking Cessation – Quit Smoking Now!

Join Florida Hospital for a free, 6-week program designed to meet the needs of smokers who want to quit. Participants are encouraged to get support by attending as many programs as they want, and can attend over and over until they are confident about being smoke-free. Participants are provided a book and other helpful tools along the way to make the process easier. The program, which was designed by an ex-smoker and is led by a trained facilitator, will guide participants through the many issues related to quitting smoking, including coping with anger, sleep problems and cravings, managing stress, how physical activity and healthy food choices make quitting smoking easier, how to prevent relapse and what to do when friends and family smoke around you.

Stroke Support Group

Join Florida Hospital for a support group designed to help stroke patients as they adjust to changes in their daily lives. Led by one of our speech pathologists, this group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 3 pm.

Stuttering Support Group

If you stutter, you’re not alone. The National Stuttering Association wants to help you on your quest to communicate more easily and effectively. This support group is intended for adults who stutter and provides a safe and supportive environment for peer discussion. Under the guidance of one of our speech-language pathologists, attendants will learn new coping strategies and methods for improving overall quality of life. Meetings are intended to benefit individuals who stutter and for anyone with an interest in learning more about stuttering.

This group meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 6:30 to 8 pm. For information, e-mail esherman@westutter.org.
