Beyond our resort-like surroundings and top quality care, we also offer newborn portrait photographers to help capture babies’ first moments, taken in the intimate environment of mom’s private labor and delivery suite. Photos are securely posted to the baby’s own web page where it can be shared with family and friends. Another unique feature of a 5-star birthing experience at our BirthCare Center is the beloved tradition of playing Brahms’ Lullaby throughout Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center to announce the birth of each new baby. New moms also enjoy a celebratory meal for two in the comfort of their private room.
The BirthCare Center is dedicated to caring for both mother and baby, in the hospital and after your stay. A highly trained and specialized Registered Nurse (RN) cares for you and your baby throughout the postpartum stay, while our Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) provides additional patient care.
Some newborns need a little more time and special attention after their delivery. Our board certified neonatologists provides exceptional care and development for these infants on a 24/7 basis. Each room is equipped to handle unexpected emergencies, but if special medical needs arise, your baby may be transferred to our nursery, which is equipped for critical care and stabilization.
Our team of dedicated professionals is focused entirely on providing expert care to our newborns, so you can be confident that your baby is in the best of hands. In fact, in the summer of 2012, Consumer Reports rated our hospital the safest in the state of Florida.
Our team consists of two board-certified neonatologists, as well as a neonatal nurse practitioner who provides ongoing education to our nursery care team regarding the latest treatments and therapies. Our neonatal team conducts newborn evaluations and utilizes state-of-the-art equipment to perform neonatal resuscitation and stabilization if necessary. Our parent education staff provides expert information, including parent discharge materials and infant CPR training, as well as breastfeeding support by our internationally board-certified lactation consultants. Because critical care situations don’t happen on a set schedule, our neonatal services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Board Certified Lactation Counseling
Breastfeeding is one of the most precious gifts a mother and baby can give to each other. The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes breastfeeding as the best method of feeding and nurturing infants. Breastfeeding offers numerous benefits, including:
- Low in cost
- Convenient and readily available
- Correct quantity and temperature
- Easier for baby to digest than formula
- Right combination of nutrients
- Reduces incidence of allergic reaction, constipation, diarrhea, ear infections, upper respiratory infection and colds
- Promotes healthy sucking and helps prevent dental caries
- Facilitates physical and emotional bonding between mother and baby
- Returns uterus to pre-pregnant state much faster
At the BirthCare Center, in addition to our certified lactation counselors, one lactation counselor has earned the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification, which demonstrates specialized knowledge and skill in human lactation and breastfeeding.
Our Board Certified Lactation Consultants provide expert breastfeeding and lactation care, promote changes that support breastfeeding and help reduce the risks of not breastfeeding. They also have the specialized skills needed to work with mothers to prevent and solve breastfeeding problems, as well as educate others about the far-reaching and long-lasting value of breastfeeding as a global public health imperative.
