Colon Tumors

Screening and Tests for Colon Tumors

The primary tool for colon tumor or colorectal cancer screening is a colonoscopy. This diagnostic test is used to screen for colorectal polyps and for colon cancer diagnosis. In addition to a colonoscopy, your Florida Hospital physician may also perform any or all of the following diagnostic procedures:

  • Fecal occult blood test (FOBT) to detect hidden blood in the stool
  • Sigmoidoscopy to screen the lower section of the colon
  • Double-contrast barium enema(DCBE) to X-ray the soft tissue within the abdomen
  • Virtual colonoscopy (CT colonography) to achieve three-dimensional imaging of the colon’s interior
