Leptomeningeal Tumor

Survivability of Leptomeningeal Tumor

Even with treatment, the median survival for leptomeningeal tumor is only three to six months. Many patients will die as a result of progressive neurological disease, and others because of uncontrolled systemic cancer even if their neurological symptoms are under control.

While the prognosis for this condition is poor, some patients do better, particularly those whose primary cancer is hematologic, meaning cancers affecting the blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes. In addition, breast cancer patients may also have a prolonged survival.
