Florida Hospital Kissimmee Breaks Ground on Patient Tower

Florida Hospital Kissimmee Breaks Ground For New Patient Tower

Eighty-bed tower is the largest capital expansion project in the hospital’s 20 year history

KISSIMMEE, Fla., December 12, 2013 – Osceola and south Orange County residents will soon have expanded access to healthcare as part of a new 80-bed patient tower at Florida Hospital Kissimmee.  Kissimmee leaders gathered alongside Florida Hospital executives to break ground on the new three-story patient tower.  The tower will feature large private patient rooms, cardiology services including two cardiac catheterization labs, with the capability of performing interventional cardiology procedures. The tower will include a retail gift shop and a new kitchen and cafeteria. The expansion will double the size of the hospital.

“We are pleased to be able to offer an expanded level of care to the Kissimmee and Osceola and south Orange County community,” said Florida Hospital Kissimmee Administrator Jeff Villanueva.  “The addition of the cardiology service line is especially important as heart disease is the number one cause of death in Osceola County.  We believe increased access to cardiovascular services close to home will improve that statistic.”

The need for healthcare in the Osceola County community is growing as well.  Over the last decade, the population has skyrocketed by 55 percent according to the United States Census Bureau.

“Anything we can do to improve our residents’ access to healthcare today and in the future is important for the Kissimmee community,” said Jim Swan, Mayor of Kissimmee.  “This new tower will make it possible for residents to stay closer to home to access the healthcare system.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary since Florida Hospital acquired the hospital.  More than 20 physicians and hospital staff have watched the community and hospital transform over those two decades and are excited to see the largest expansion in Florida Hospital Kissimmee’s history first hand.

“This community has changed and expanded so much over 20 years,” said Dr. Dionisio Flores, Florida Hospital Kissimmee Chief of Staff.  “Florida Hospital Kissimmee began with 40 beds and over time we’ve grown to 83 beds and now this new tower will nearly double the size of the hospital.  We will be able to offer patients more comprehensive services and some additional amenities in a beautiful, modern environment.”

The 94,000 square-foot patient tower is expected to be completed by spring 2015.
