Incisional Hernia

Screening and Tests for Incisional Hernia

Once a bulge, swelling, or a visible protrusion is located, blood tests and a X-ray or CT scan are ordered, which are common tests for a hernia. In diagnosing an incisional hernia, the health care provider will schedule surgery for an incisional hernia repair, also known as a ventral hernia repair.

The following screening and tests are used to diagnose an incisional hernia:
  • Palpating a surgical wound or surgical scar to locate a bulge, swelling, and/or protrusion.
  • Blood tests
  • X-ray
  • CT scan
Screening and tests are recommended to make the best diagnosis of an incisional hernia. If you believe you have an incisional hernia, talk to your doctor, or request an appointment at Florida Hospital today.
