Diagnosing hemifacial spasm begins with a physical exam to evaluate movement of the facial muscles. If the possibility of the disorder is indicated, the doctor usually prescribes imaging tests. Among these are computed tomography (CT) scan and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that delivery highly detailed views of tissue, nerves, blood vessels and bone.
