Heart Attack (myocardial infarction)

Causes of Heart Attack

The causes of heart attack include coronary artery disease, leading to severely blocked arteries or acute blood clot formation. Atherosclerosis, an accumulation of a waxy substance called plaque on the inside walls of a coronary artery, is a common cause of blocked arteries. Consisting of cholesterol and fat deposits, plaque can rupture and allow a blood clot to form.
