Gonadotropin

Conditions Related to Gonadotropin

Gonadotropin is used to help the body make hormones needed to produce eggs or sperm. Gonadotropins are often used to trigger ovulation in women who have low levels of gonadotropin or estrogen, which is commonly seen in women with excessive exercise or eating disorders. They can also be used for women whose infertility can be traced to polycystic ovary syndrome, and to develop multiple eggs for assisted reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization.

In men, gonadotropin is prescribed for low sperm counts caused by low levels of natural gonadotropins, and in boys, it can also be used to treat the birth defect cryptorchidism, or undescended testicles.
