Screening and Tests for GERD

Following a complete medical history and a thorough physical examination, your Florida Hospital digestive care specialist will conduct screenings and tests according to your specific symptoms. Procedures used to diagnose GERD may include:
• Upper gastrointestinal (GI) series
• Upper endoscopy (also called an EGD or esophagogastroduodenoscopy) Digital rectal examination (DRE) to detect blood, blockage or tenderness
• Bernstein test
• Esophageal manometry
• Stool sample
• pH monitoring
