Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Prevention of GERD

Nearly have of the population of the U.S. experiences GERD at some point in their life. GERD is caused by repeated acid reflux, so undergoing acid reflux treatment can help prevent GERD.  Ways to prevent acid reflux include:

  •  Maintain a healthy weight
  •  Don’t overeat
  •  Follow a GERD diet that limits or eliminates foods such as chocolate, caffeine, spicy cuisine, fatty food, citrus and more
  •  Limit alcohol intake
  •  Quit smoking
  •  Limit use of aspirin, ibuprofen and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) drugs
