Gastrectomy

Survivability of Gastrectomy

As with every surgical procedure, it’s important to understand the implications, long-term prognosis and the survivability of gastrectomy. For most patients, surviving gastrectomy includes nutritional changes after surgery. Most patients remain hospitalized for up to 10 days after the procedure.

Recovery may include more treatment and different instructions depending on the patient’s specific condition. For instance, those with gastric cancer may require radiation treatment or chemotherapy to ensure all cancerous cells are removed.
