Treatments Related to Gallbladder Surgery
Depending on the patient’s specific condition, related treatments to gallbladder surgery may be recommended in addition to surgery or instead of surgery. These other treatment options may be safer for some patients.
For instance, gallbladder cancer can be treated with a variety of therapies. Some of the other treatment options for cancer include the following:
For patients with gallstones, other treatment options include medications to dissolve the stone or electrohydraulic shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break up the gallstones. For patients with gallstones in the bile duct, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography may be used to extract the stones. For ill patients in the ICU, radiologists can also perform needle aspiration of the infected gallbladder fluid.
