Gallbladder Disease

Prevention of Gallbladder Disease

Avoid treatments like gallbladder surgery with a better diet and these prevention techniques. While gallbladder surgery has become more widespread, any type of surgery has risks. Prevent Gallbladder disease and the risk of surgery using these prevention techniques:

Improve your diet to help prevent gallbladder disease. Eating low-fat, high fiber foods helps prevent an increase of bile production. Avoid alcohol and tobacco, trans fatty acids (found in the cookies, crackers, cakes, French fries and margarine sold at the grocery store).

Exercising can help improve your health and prevent gallbladder disease.  If your health permits, try to exercise lightly 5 days per week. Maintain a healthy weight to help prevent gallstones, but avoid crash dieting.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water during the day to help prevent gallstones from forming in your gallbladder.

Talk to your Doctor about Hormone Therapy

Through clinical trials and research, it has been shown the risk of gallstones increases with hormone therapy. Women should discuss their risk and their medical history with their physician before altering their medications.

Our specialists can help create a customized diet and prevention plan to help you decrease your risk of developing gallstones and gallbladder disease.
