Support Groups

Bereavement Support Group - Florida Hospital HospiceCare

After the loss of your loved one, you may feel alone in your grief. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies and invite you to be a part of our Bereavement Support Group. This six-week program is hosted by Florida Hospital HospiceCare and is offered at various times and locations to meet your needs. Free individual counseling is also provided as needed.

Cancer – Breast Cancer Support Group

This group provides opportunities for emotional support and sharing of information for women and men with breast cancer. Members include the newly diagnosed, those in treatment, and survivors. Scheduled professional speakers provide education on breast cancer related topics.

Breast Cancer Survivors and Guests meet the third Thursday of every month from
5:00 – 7:00 pm in Classroom D at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Cancer – Cancer Caregivers Support Group

We Care is a support group designed for caregivers who may be family or friends. The group provides an opportunity to learn, share, laugh, and cry through the guidance of professionals and speakers who understand the importance of having somewhere to turn for assistance. The group not only offers discussion and education but a chance to meet others like you going through the same challenges of caring for loved ones with cancer.

We Care meets on the 4th Tuesday every other month, October, December, February, and April, from 1:30 – 2:30 pm in Classroom D at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Cancer – Head and Neck Cancer Support Group

Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer (SPOHNC) is a patient directed self-help group where members discuss coping strategies, experiences, and hope. The group provides opportunities for awareness, information, and encouragement to newly diagnosed survivors, family members, and friends in a non-threatening forum.

SPOHNC meets every first Thursday of every month from 4:00 – 5:30 pm in Classroom C at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Cancer – Look Good, Feel Better

This class teaches female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Meets the last Monday of every other month in Classroom D at Florida Hospital Flagler. Registration required.

Cancer – Lung Cancer Support Group

If you’ve been diagnosed with lung cancer, you might have physical needs and emotional concerns distinct from other cancer patients. The Comprehensive Cancer Center is here to provide a safe and open environment to share your experiences and struggles. We will connect you with local and national resources to aid during your time of need. Our lung cancer support group is the only one of its kind in Volusia and Flagler counties.

This group meets on the third Tuesday of every month from 4:00 – 5:00 pm at the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center located at
224 Memorial Medical Parkway, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.

Cancer – Prostate Cancer Support Group

Designed for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Man to Man support group provides a comfortable setting for discussion, education, and support throughout the treatment and recovery process.

Man to Man meets the third Thursday of every month, 9:00 – 11:00 am in Classroom D at Florida Hospital Flagler. RSVP required.

Cardiopulmonary – Better Breathers/Young at Heart

Cardiac and pulmonary support group for patients and family members recovering or diagnosed with heart or respiratory illness.

Meets the first Thursday of the month (except June, July, and August – no meetings) from
2:00 – 3:00 pm at the Medical Office Building, room 2803, in the cardiopulmonary rehab department.

Ostomy Support Group

Ostomy support group for Ostomates and Caregivers. Our members include ileostomies, continent ileostomies, colostomies and urostomies, and anything in between. This group will provide emotional support, where we can share the trials and tribulations of having an ostomy as well as success stories to keep us ostomates moving forward.  Expert guest speakers may include surgeons, Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses, nutritionists, and product representatives.

Ostomy Support Group meets the second Sunday of every other month from 2:00 – 3:00 pm in the Florida Hospital Flagler Education Center at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

Parkinson’s disease - learn the signs, how it progresses, and how to treat it. We provide group exercise and movement facilitation led by a physical therapist and guest presenters instructing in tai chi and yoga, speech therapy Q&A, oral motor and voice exercises led by a speech therapist, and expert guest speakers that may include pharmacists, neurologists, nutritionists, mental health professionals, surgeons, patients, and caregiver training.

Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets the second Wednesday of every month from
1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Florida Hospital Flagler Education Center at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Smoking Cessation – Quit Smoking Now!

Join Florida Hospital for a free, 6-week program designed to meet the needs of smokers who want to quit. Participants are encouraged to get support by attending as many programs as they want, and can attend over and over until they are confident about being smoke-free. Participants are provided a book and other helpful tools along the way to make the process easier. The program, which was designed by an ex-smoker and is led by a trained facilitator, will guide participants through the many issues related to quitting smoking, including coping with anger, sleep problems and cravings, managing stress, how physical activity and healthy food choices make quitting smoking easier, how to prevent relapse, and what to do when friends and family smoke around you.

Stroke Support Group

The stroke support group is a community organization for stroke survivors and their family members, friends, and others. It helps people learn more about stroke, share their experiences and become inspired to move forward. A stroke can be very isolating. By meeting regularly, members help one another face and overcome common challenges by sharing experiences and encouraging one another. The stroke support group can be a place for survivors and caregivers to make friends, socialize, gain realistic feedback, help others, and find meaning in life.

Stroke Support Group meets the third Tuesday of every month at 11:00 am in Classroom D at Florida Hospital Flagler.

Total Joint Replacement

Florida Hospital Flagler offers a free class for those considering joint replacement in the future. Participants will learn about: total hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery, post-anesthesia care, their stay on the orthopedic unit, post-discharge expectations, and exercises they’ll need to perform both before and after surgery.

Classes are held twice a month in Classrooms A/B at Florida Hospital Flagler.
