At Florida Hospital Flagler, we are committed partners in cardiac care, offering our patients a wide array of invaluable heart health resources. From risk assessment and nutritional counseling, to wellness centers and on-going education, we help people make simple lifestyle and diet changes that can greatly reduce the risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke. In fact, our PCI procedures (Percutaneous coronary intervention), also known as coronary angioplasty, have proven highly successful in the treatment of blood flow blockages in the heart. This simple, non-surgical procedure, utilizes an image-guided catheter threaded through the femoral or radial artery to the blockage in the artery. A balloon is then inflated to open the artery, allowing blood to flow once again.
The health care team at Florida Hospital Flagler performs advanced, non-invasive diagnostic and test services, such as:
- Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Catheterization
- Nuclear Cardiology
- Stress Testing
- Peripheral Vascular Studies
- 24-hour Holter Monitoring
- Radial Artery Catheterization
- Transesophageal Echo
- Cardiac MRI/MRA
- PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention)
- Interventional Radiology
Cardiac Wellness & Rehabilitation
Florida Hospital Flagler also offers a Cardiac Wellness & Rehabilitation Program for those patients who are recovering from a recent cardiac event. Cardiac Rehabilitation is a professionally supervised program to help people recover from heart attacks, heart surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures such as stenting and angioplasty. Cardiac Rehabilitation staff, which include a registered nurse and exercise physiologist, lead participants through a personalized exercise program designed for their specific heart problems.
Heart patients are carefully monitored throughout the one-hour exercise sessions, which focus on cardiovascular health, muscular strength and flexibility. Extensive education on heart disease is also provided, which includes information on how to reduce risk factors, eat right, control blood pressure, and understand the signs and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke. For more information, please call (386) 586-4480.
Interventional radiology refers to a specialized area of radiology that uses x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and other imaging technologies to guide percutaneous (through the skin) procedures to treat a variety of medical disorders without surgery. These minimally-invasive procedures at Florida Hospital Flagler include biopsies, inserting catheters (thin tubes), draining fluids and opening narrowed blood vessels. Procedures performed by interventional radiologists are generally less risky, less costly, less traumatic and require less recovery time for the patient. In addition, many of these procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, eliminating or reducing hospital stays.
