Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Celebrates National Healthcare Volunteer Week

ORANGE CITY, Fla., April 28, 2014 - In honor of National Healthcare Volunteer Week, which is April 6 to April 12, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial recognized the volunteers who donate their time and talents to the hospital.

“This special week presents an opportunity to celebrate the everyday people who accomplish extraordinary things through service,” said Daryl Tol, Florida Hospital Volusia/Flagler CEO. “These community members are essential to the healthcare team as they give of their time freely and ask for nothing in return. We are so blessed to have such an incredible group of volunteers; they are a precious and important part of our team.”

President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974, as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers. Every sitting U.S. president since Nixon has issued a proclamation during National Volunteer Week.

On April 11, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon at the hospital.

Florida Hospital Fish Memorial currently has more than 150 active volunteers assisting in many departments throughout the hospital. Last year, the volunteers at the Orange City hospital contributed nearly 32,500 hours of service to patients, families and staff.
