Health problems related to reproductive developmental disorders in girls are both physical and psychological. Sexual difficulties and infertility can arise from problems in the reproductive tract. Other related conditions of developmental disorders of the female reproductive tract include:
- Lumps in the abdomen that can be painful and require surgery
- Multiple miscarriages
- Repeated pre-term births
- Endometriosis, a condition in which cell tissues of the uterus grow in other parts of the body
Ambiguous genitalia may lead to incorrectly assigning male gender to a baby girl. In the past, there was pressure to raise the child with the assigned sex regardless of other factors, resulting in serious psychological problems for the girl. Improved chromosome tests now help determine a baby’s actual gender when sex organs resemble those of a boy.
