    FREE Joint Replacement Class

    Florida Hospital Flagler offers a free class for those considering a joint replacement in the future. All are welcome to this class, whether or not they have an orthopedic surgery scheduled.

    Participants will learn about:

    Total hip, knee and shoulder replacement surgery, post-anesthesia care, their stay on the orthopedic unit, post-discharge expectations and exercises they’ll need to perform both before and after surgery.

    When facing the prospect of having joint replacement surgery, it helps to know you are in the hands of experts. Our goal is for you to achieve your best possible outcome, and our staff is committed to making sure you reach that goal.

    FREE Quit Smoking Now Program

    Decades of research show that quitting tobacco use can be the single most important thing an individual can do for their health. Non-smokers live on average 10 years longer than smokers.

    Quitting is not just good for your health, it’s also good for your wallet. The average pack-a-day smoker in Florida spends more than $2,000 a year on cigarettes. 

    Join Florida Hospital Flagler for a free six-week Quit Smoking Now Program on Thursdays from February 8 - March 15 at 5:30pm. The class provides participants with relevant education, support, and resources in a group setting. Each participant is given a participant workbook, and a quit bag with items such as stress ball, water bottle, worry stone. A trained Tobacco Treatment Specialist facilitates the class to assist participants in their transition into a life without tobacco.

     Topics that are addressed during the program include:

    •Why do you use tobacco?

    •The benefits of quitting

    •Identifying triggers & how to handle them

    •Stress management

    •How to cope with withdrawal from nicotine 

    •Selecting a quit date

    •Detailed description of available nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs)

    •How to avoid “slips” and “relapses” 

    •Additional support resources

    A Free four-week supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (patch, lozenge or gum) is also provided to each registered participant.

    Young at Heart Chair Yoga

    Yoga has been shown to be very beneficial for those with debilitating health conditions. This weekly class is designed for those with arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and other conditions. Gentle stretching and strengthening exercises, breath work, standing poses for balance, and guided meditation, all done with the support of a chair, are included in this FREE 45-minute class.     Art of Healing

    Create a mixed-media mandala with us in this month’s Art of Healing. The word mandala means “circle” in Sanskrit, and is an ancient symbol that represents the universe and the wholeness of life. The mandala can be used to establish sacred space and also as a tool for meditation.

    Boot Camp for New Dads® is a unique father-to-father workshop that inspires and equips men to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates and personally navigate their transformation into dads.

    This four hour condensed version of our prepared childbirth program, Understanding Birth, covers; the end of pregnancy, labor and birth, possible medical interventions and Cesarean Section. The instructor briefly touches on natural labor techniques, and provides participants with "at home practice" resources. The class is taught by a Certified Childbirth Educator, with many years’ experience as a Labor and Delivery RN, and a passion for teaching. Light snacks are provided.

    Young at Heart Chair Yoga

    Yoga has been shown to be very beneficial for those with debilitating health conditions. This weekly class is designed for those with arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and other conditions. Gentle stretching and strengthening exercises, breath work, standing poses for balance, and guided meditation, all done with the support of a chair, are included in this FREE 45-minute class. Wear loose clothing and tennis shoes or barefoot. No flip flops, please. Come as you are, leave feeling great!

    Support for People with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer, Inc.     Understanding Birth eClass

    Our Understanding Birth eClass is a unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust as you prepare for the upcoming birth of your baby.  This class can be done from your computer at home and it includes videos, animations, and interactive games as you prepare for your delivery.  You will have access to the class for 60 days after you register. A link to your class will be emailed to you within 72 hours of registration.

    Prepared Childbirth Classes 2018

    Prepared Childbirth Classes are offered as a four-week series, with each series beginning on the assigned dates. Classes include topics on labor and delivery, medications, breathing and relaxation techniques, induction and Cesarean section. Registration required.
     
    Please bring two pillows and a blanket to each class. In order to provide an optimal experience and ensure that other class participants may focus on our instructor, please do not bring small children.
     
    $50 per couple for the entire four-week series. Only one registration is needed per couple. Scholarships are available. For scholarship information, call (386) 231-3152.

    Things That Go Bump in the Night

These are sleep disorders that are characterized by activities that occur while a person is sleeping.     Childbirth Preparation - One Day "Super Prep"

    This one day course is designed to prepare you and your partner for all phases of birth. It is recommended that this course be completed 4-6 weeks before due date. Class covers: what to expect in the hospital, how to tell if you are in labor, labor support techniques, medications and interventions, cesarean birth, postpartum information and a tour of the facility. PBLS for "Super Prep" needs to be enrolled for also. 1 support person may attend but does not need to enroll.
