Esophageal Cancer

Symptoms and Signs of Esophageal Cancer

The most common symptoms and signs of esophageal cancer are not usually experienced until the condition is in advanced stages. The earlier stages do not cause symptoms, making esophageal cancer difficult to diagnose early.
While each patient’s experiences are different, these are the common symptoms of esophageal cancer:
  • Pain or difficulty when swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Throat or back pain
  • Severe unintentional weight loss
  • Chronic cough or hoarseness that doesn’t go away in two weeks
  • Vomiting
  • Blood in stool
  • Heartburn
Pain or difficulty swallowing and unexplained weight loss are the most common of these symptoms.
It’s important for patients, especially those with a high risk of developing cancer to know the symptoms and signs of esophageal cancer. Then, seek screening at Florida Hospital.
