Ependymal Tumor

Survivability of Ependymal Tumor

While the prognosis for any ependymal tumor will depend on the tumor’s location and grade, the good news is that, unlike astrocytomas and oliogodendrogliomas, these tumors do not usually infiltrate brain tissue, and as such, many can completely removed during surgery. However, because they can spread along ependymal surfaces and cerebrospinal pathways, treatments can be difficult. Spinal cord ependymomas have the best chance of being surgically treated, but treatment can cause nerve damage.
