Ectopic Cushing Syndrome

Treatments for Ectopic Cushing Syndrome

To eliminate symptoms, doctors usually recommend surgically removing the tumor as the best treatment for ectopic Cushing Syndrome. Removal is usually possible on noncancerous (benign) tumors. Surgery may provide a complete recovery for patients, but it is noted that the tumor can possibly grow back.

For patients with cancerous tumors, it’s possible the cancer has spread to surrounding tissue, making it difficult to remove. In this case, doctors can prescribe drugs to block cortisol secretion as treatment.
