For patients with symptoms, screening and tests for ectopic Cushing syndrome usually include physical exams, analysis of medical history and blood testing.
Blood testing can give the greatest insight into the factors that indicate high blood sugar, cholesterol and white blood cell count. It can also measure for cortisol, ACTH and other hormones that indicate ectopic Cushing syndrome.
Once the condition is suspected, screening for ectopic Cushing syndrome complications can include the following tests:
- CT scan
- MRI of the pituitary gland
- Bone density tests
- ACTH testing
