Thoracic and Pulmonary

Pulmonary

Florida Hospital East Orlando is home to a specialized team of highly trained pulmonary and respiratory physicians, specialists, therapists and support staff. They work side-by-side with specialized physicians and other health care professionals to ensure that patients with pulmonary diseases are receiving the utmost in care.

Our respiratory therapy practitioners (RCPs) are commonly found in intensive-care units, emergency rooms, critical care transport and rapid response teams, cardiac catheterization labs and operating rooms, as well as other areas within a hospital. These RCPs provide care 24-hours a day, treating virtually every patient population, including the most critically ill patients in the hospital.

RCPs are responsible for evaluating and treating patients with all manner of breathing disorders, including lung problems such as:
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Emphysema
  • Cystic-pulmonary fibrosis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Respiratory components of acute multi-systemic conditions such as sepsis, heart attack and stroke

The East Orlando Respiratory Care Department offers a wide range of services, including:
  • Breathing exercises
  • Bronchial clearance therapy
  • Emergency Department respiratory care
  • Life support/mechanical ventilation

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

Lung cancer is currently the deadliest cancer patients face. However, at Florida Hospital East Orlando, we’re committed to detecting lung cancer in its earliest stages, when it is most treatable and beatable. In partnership with the world-renowned Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, pulmonologist Steven Vu, MD, utilizes Central Florida’s only endobronchial ultrasound technology (with a miniature ultrasonic probe). This minimally invasive procedure is highly effective in diagnosing and staging lung cancer, peripheral lung disease and other lung conditions.

The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, of which Florida Hospital East Orlando is a part, serves more cancer patients than any other program in Florida. For more information, call the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute at East Orlando today at (407) 303-6800.

Better Breathers Club

As part of our continuing service to our community, Florida Hospital East Orlando, is pleaseed to offer the Better Breathers Club in conjunction with the American Lung Association. This free education and support program is an important resource for patients with chronic lung disease.

The program runs the second Wednesday of every month, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Florida Hospital East Orlando Cardiorespiratory Lounge. At these meetings, participants have the opportunity to learn more about their condition and socialize with fellow patients and their families. Each month, a new respiratory topic is discussed; these can include respiratory medications, delivery devices and administration techniques.

Our goal at these meetings is to offer our patients the chance to learn everything they can about their condition, from us as well as from people who have been through similar experiences.
