Speech & Language Pathology

We offer both inpatient and outpatient Speech/Language services. Our Speech/Language Pathologists are trained in providing evaluation and treatment for patients with a variety of speech and swallowing disorders. They also perform VitalStim® Therapy, Modified Barium Swallow Studies with a radiologist and host the Aphasia Support Group, which meets monthly.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Therapy is a new way to treat dysphagia (difficulty with swallowing) and is often used for patients who have neurological problems such as stroke or multiple sclerosis. This procedure safely retrains the pharyngeal muscles with neuromuscular electrical stimulation.

Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBS)

When a patient is having difficulty swallowing, called dysphagia, the Speech-Language Pathologist will observe the patient while eating and may conduct an instrumental assessment of the patient's swallowing ability. This involves eating foods and drinking various consistencies of barium while the Speech-Language Pathologist watches an X-ray. After completing the MBS, a plan of treatment and diet recommendations will be determined.

Designed for analysis and feedback of speech behavior, speech training, measuring and application for voice disorders. It is used with individuals with vocal quality disorder, volume and pitch disorders.
