Cosmetic Breast Surgery
Treatments Related to Cosmetic Breast Surgery
The primary medical treatment related to cosmetic breast surgery is mastectomy. The removal of the breast as a treatment for breast cancer usually leads to breast reconstruction and sometimes augmentation. Treatments for male breast enlargement (gynecomastia) may include hormone medications as well as breast reduction surgery.
Treatment following cosmetic breast surgery continues at home. Medications reduce the possibility of infection and may help reduce post-operative pain. Women may need to wear a surgical bra at first, then later a special supportive bra to help shape the breasts. Massaging the breasts starting a few days after surgery helps reduce hardening of tissue around the implant, but this should only be done on the doctor’s instructions.
