Cosmetic Breast Surgery
Conditions Related to Cosmetic Breast Surgery
Many cases of cosmetic breast surgery are related to a personal desire to improve one’s physical appearance. At other times, it is an important step in the treatment of breast cancer.
Women often select breast augmentation to make the shape of their breasts more full and symmetrical, as well as for enlargement. Breast lift surgery is usually performed on women whose breasts are loose or sag as a result of pregnancy and breast-feeding. Breast reduction surgery helps women with macromastia, extremely large breasts that cause discomfort, interfere with activities and lead to self-consciousness. Men with gynecomastia, a medical condition resulting in enlarged male breasts, also choose breast reduction when other treatments are ineffective.
Breast reconstruction is often related to a mastectomy done as a treatment for breast cancer. The procedure seeks to restore the shape of the breast and symmetry with the remaining breast. When both breasts are removed, some women chose to include enlargement at the same time as reconstruction.
