Side Effects of Clonidine

No matter the brand or how you take it (e.g., an oral tablet or injected solution), clonidine does have the risk of some side effects. Common side effects that generally do not require medical attention unless they are severe or especially persistent include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Headache
  • Nervousness
  • Decreased sexual desire or performance
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Constipation

However, if you any of the following symptoms, you should seek medical attention immediately:

  • Rash anywhere on the body
  • Hives
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Hoarseness
  • Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles or lower legs
