Clonidine

Related Conditions of Clonidine

Aside from hypertension (high blood pressure), the most likely condition for which clonidine is taken, and a hypertensive crisis (when blood pressure spikes to very high levels), clonidine may also used to treat a number of other disorders. It is taken, for instance, in the treatment of dysmenorrhea (severely painful cramps that appear during a woman’s period), as well as for Tourette’s syndrome (in which patients are compelled to perform repeated motions or sounds or words), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, withdrawal from nicotine, alcohol or narcotics, and hot flashes associated with menopause.

In addition to treatments, it can be used to diagnose a tumor called pheochromocytoma, which develops on a gland near the kidney and may cause high blood pressure and a fast heart rate.
