Cesarean Section (C-Section)

Conditions Related to Cesarean Section

Cesarean sections can be planned or unplanned, but these are a few of the reasons why a cesarean section may be necessary for a safe delivery:

  • The mother has had previous c-sections
  • The fetus is in distress
  • The baby is breech or has another abnormal delivery position
  • The baby is too large
  • Maternal medical conditions
  • Labor does not progress normally or at all
  • Complications with the placenta

Other risk factors include having twins or other multiples. Multiple babies carry a higher risk for the health of the mother and fetuses. A cesarean section may be recommended.
