Cervical Polyps

Screening and Tests for Cervical Cancer

Screening for cervical polyps usually comes about as part of a pelvic exam. The doctor performing the exam will spot smooth, red or purple fingerlike growths on the cervix. The cervix is fairly easy to remove, and once that’s done, it will likely be sent off to a lab for a cervical biopsy, which tests for abnormal, precancerous or cancer cells in a polyp, though usually these tests confirm that the polyp is benign.
