Side Effects of Central Venous Catheter

Placement of central lines can be done safely, but like any surgery procedure, sometimes complications are unavoidable.  The most common complications after a central line placement include the following:
  • Collapse of the lung
  • Pain at the site
  • Infection
  • Injury to the vein
  • Thrombosis of the line
  • Need for replacement
