Florida Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program is designed to educate patients and family members during — and after — hospitalization for a cardiac event. The program is divided into three phases — education, monitored exercise and maintenance — and provides a comprehensive approach for patients to learn how to build cardiac strength.
Phase I — Education
Phase I is an in-hospital program where patients learn about their diagnosis, procedure and how to care for themselves in the immediate post-operative or post-event period. Continued education continues throughout the next phases of the rehabilitation program via videos, classes and handouts.
Phase II — Monitored Exercise
This is an EKG-monitored wellness program that begins shortly after hospitalization for cardiac patients. The patient’s exercise routine is customized to meet their particular needs and goals. Electrocardiogram (EKG), blood pressure and oxygen-saturation monitoring is provided at regular intervals. Additionally, our on-going classes offer information and support as patients continue to modify their lifestyle:
- Heart function
- Secondary prevention of risk factors
- Stress management
- Support group
- Smoking cessation
Medicare covers certain diagnoses including bypass surgery, stable angina or a heart attack within one year of occurrence. Our team will be happy to talk to you about your diagnosis and insurance benefits.
Phase III — Maintenance Program
This advanced supervised fitness program continues to build cardiac strength through the use of exercise equipment, recreational activities and group workouts. It is also a bridge to an independent wellness program.
How to Register
To register for the program, talk to a cardiac specialist first. A prescription from your doctor will be required to enroll. Cardiac Rehabilitation programs are offered at Florida Hospital Orlando and Florida Hospital Celebration.
