Conditions Related to Breast Infection

While breastfeeding is the most common cause, rarely, serious related conditions to breast infection can cause the pain and inflammation in the breast. These conditions can include inflammatory breast cancer, diabetes and depressed immune system. It’s important to treat these related conditions to alleviate the risk of infection.

When left untreated, breast infection can cause a breast abscess in the breast tissue. This collection of bacteria and pus might need to be drained to avoid organ damage. In very rare cases, the related condition chronic subareolar abscess may require surgery to avoid infection.
