Florida Hospital Milk Depot Collects 20,000 Ounces of Milk!

POSTED BY: Colleen Andrews, BSN, Parent Education Instructor

This month marks the one year anniversary of the opening of the Mother’s Milk Depot at Florida Hospital in Orlando. In the past 12 months, the depot has received and shipped 20,000 ounces of donor human milk to the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Colorado for pasteurization and distribution for premature and at risk babies nationwide.

Significantly premature infants are at great risk for life threatening illness. When mothers own milk is unavailable, donor human milk is the recommended form of infant feeding. Human milk confers healing and preventative properties that formula cannot provide to these little ones. Women who have an oversupply of breast milk can make a difference in the lives of many through the valuable gift of milk donation. The depot offers a convenient drop off location at the Lactation Center in Orlando. For more information about becoming a human milk donor, visit the Florida Hospital Milk Depot or call 407-303-2599.
