Related Treatments for Bisphosphonates

Bisphosphonates are not the only treatment available for osteoporosis. Other treatment options include medicines such as denosumab, estrogen, and raloxifene, all medicines that slow bone breakdown and reduce the risk of fractures, as well as teriparatide, which stimulates new bone growth, and calcitonin, which slows bone loss.

There are surgical options as well. Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure to reinforce vertebrae that have compression fractures; kyphoplasty is another minimally invasive procedure used to stabilize weak bones and restore the height of vertebrae.
