Causes of Bartholin's Cyst

The cause of a Bartholin’s cyst is a duct obstruction that leads to fluid backup in the Bartholin’s glands. This fluid may build up for years before the cyst actually occurs; however, the abscess can appear very quickly, over just a few days, and become extremely hot and swollen. Activities that put pressure on the vulva can, along with sitting and walking, can severe pain.
