After the procedure, the prognosis for appendectomy is good for more patients depending on the patient’s overall health and condition. For patients with open surgery, the short-term recovery prognosis includes a few days in hospital for recovery, followed by two to four weeks of recovery at home.
Patients who undergo minimally invasive laparoscopic appendectomy are known to recover faster. Studies show the laparoscopic procedure causes less pain and is associated with a faster recovery time.
If the patient’s appendix ruptured, recovery time may be longer than a patient whose appendix did not burst.
For the long-term prognosis, patients should not experience any adverse effect from living without an appendix.
