Ankle Fracture

Screening and Tests for Ankle Fracture

Along with a physical exam, screening for ankle fractures usually involves imaging tests—especially x-rays—of the leg, ankle and foot. Doctors may also use a stress test, or an x-ray taken while pressure is placed on the ankle, which can help ascertain if the fracture requires surgery. Other imaging tests, such as an MRI or CT scan, may be used to assess ankle injuries, particularly injuries to the ankle ligaments.
