Ankle Fracture

Conditions Related to Ankle Fracture

Related conditions to ankle fracture include what’s called a syndesmotic injury (or high ankle sprain) and dislocation of the ankle. Syndesmotic injuries can sometimes be treated without surgery, but they take longer to heal than normal ankle sprains, and can cause the ankle to be particularly unstable when combined with a fracture (these injuries almost always require surgery).

Bimalleolar, bimalleolar equivalent and trimalleolar fractures are all unstable injuries that can be associated with dislocation of the ankle, meaning there is damage and tearing of the connective tissue surrounding the ankle joint and subsequence displacement of the bones forming that joint.
