Symptoms and Signs of Anal Cancer

Anal cancer does not always exhibit signs or symptoms of its presence, especially in its early stages, when it is most treatable and beatable. Screenings are an important measure in catching anal cancer early. As anal cancer develops, some of its more common symptoms include:

  • A lump near the anus
  • Pain or pressure around the anus
  • Itching or discharge from the anus
  • Anal bleeding, both during and in between bowel movements
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the groin or anal area
  • Change in bowel habits (thinning in the width of the stool)
