Alzheimer's Disease

Survivability of Alzheimer's Disease

Unfortunately, there is no chance of surviving Alzheimer’s disease, although people sometimes live up to 20 years after being diagnosed. Patients typically die at an earlier than normal age, but the direct cause of death is usually from an organ failure or infection. Currently no cure or means of reversing or slowing the effects of AD exists. However, in clinical trials certain drugs show promising indications of being able to slow the progress of the disease and temporarily improve memory.
