Screening and Tests for Achalasia

Anemia and malnutrition, both symptoms of achalasia, may be detected during a thorough physical examination. Other diagnostic procedures used to diagnose achalasia may include esophageal manometry, an esophagogastroduodenoscopy or an X-ray of the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract (barium swallow).
