Abdominal Myomectomy

Reasons for Abdominal Myomectomy

The abdominal myomectomy procedure was developed for the removal of uterine fibroids, which are growths that emerge from the wall of uterus. Affecting about 20 to 40 percent of women (and up to 50 percent in African American women), these growths can become large, causing severe pain, problems conceiving and other gynecologic issues. They are considered the most common pelvic tumor and in recent years, both diagnosis and treatment has improved dramatically. Abdominal myomectomies have been vital for many women wishing to become pregnant and living a life free from uterine pain.
