Meningitis Update to Florida Hospital Patients

Florida Hospital’s 22-hospital system in the state of Florida has not used the drug Methylprednisolone acetate compounded by the New England Compounding Center (NECC) that has been recalled and is being investigated for contamination.

Florida Hospital also has not purchased and therefore, patients have not received, any of the additional drugs from NECC that are now included in the investigation, which include:

  • Triamcinolone
  • Cardioplegic solution

In the past, Florida Hospital has purchased pharmaceuticals from NECC, but none of these drugs have been linked to the meningitis or infection outbreak.

Out of an abundance of caution and based on the FDA’s recommendations, Florida Hospital has pulled and sequestered any NECC product purchased after May 21, 2012. While the investigation continues, we are reviewing the products purchased from NECC and are working to compile a list of patients that may have received NECC products.

We will continue to monitor this situation with the highest priority and coordinate efforts with various government agencies.
