Florida Hospital Kissimmee Answers County Need for New Digestive Health Center
Growth of population and aging Baby Boomers increase need for endoscopy services in Osceola County

KISSIMMEE, Fla., May 11, 2012— As Osceola County continues to experience rapid growth and the baby boomer population ages, the need for comprehensive endoscopy services is expected to increase, with hundreds of new endoscopy outpatient cases projected. Florida Hospital Kissimmee is answering the community need with the opening of an 8,561 square-foot Digestive Health Center, equipped with three procedure rooms and 12 pre and post-op patient bays.

The Florida Hospital Kissimmee Digestive Health Center will perform a large spectrum of endoscopy services for the lower and upper gastrointestinal (GI) track, including colonoscopies and barrx treatment. Statistics show 80 percent of endoscopies are performed on patients 45 and older. Many GI cancers, such as colon cancer or esophageal cancer, affect an older population. Therefore, access to these services is imperative for the growing baby boomer population in Osceola County.

“As our county grows and the population’s needs change, we are dedicated to growing with them to meet their needs and health demands,” said Bill Haupt, administrator at Florida Hospital Kissimmee. “We are offering the best clinical space and a highly-qualified team for these life-saving procedures, a very important requirement when diagnosing or treating the complex issues of the gastrointestinal track.”

Dr. Basher Atiquzzaman and Dr. Sandra Jara, Florida Hospital gastroenterologists, provide comprehensive GI care by seeing patients in the same medical office building as the new Digestive Health Center.
