Miminally
Invasive Surgery
at Florida Hospital Altamonte

Minimally
invasive surgery uses a thin, telescope-like instrument called
an endoscope, which is inserted through a small incision.
The endoscope connects to a camera through an incision that
is smaller than a dime which projects a view of the operative
site onto video monitors located in the operating room. Additional
small incisions are made near the endoscope through which
the surgeon inserts specialized surgical instruments. The
surgeon manipulates these instruments to perform the operation.
After
several years of performing minimally invasive surgery, we
have learned that minimally invasive surgery techniques often
result in dramatic postoperative benefits. Patients undergoing
minimally invasive surgery may realize such benefits as reduced
postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, a quicker return
to daily activities, and less scarring.
