Florida Hospital Announces Use of Twitter to Deliver Fast and Accurate Health Care News During Swine Flu Outbreak

ORLANDO, Fla., April 30, 2009 – To ensure that information on swine flu reaches as many people as possible, Florida Hospital is using Twitter to deliver fast and accurate news to the community. For those who don’t always have access to a television, this will allow people to connect to Florida Hospital through their computers, cell phones and BlackBerries to receive updates and information.

“During this time of concern, it is our duty to serve as a trusted source to provide the latest facts and resources to the public,” said Sy Saliba, chief marketing officer at Florida Hospital. “With social media evolving as an avenue to reach the masses, we believe this is an appropriate way to communicate in a time when people are seeking constant information.”

To view Florida Hospital’s tweets today and in the future, click here and request to follow floridahospital. Although the Florida Hospital Twitter account will provide regular updates, it will not be administered by clinicians. Those who have illness-related inquiries or need a medical diagnosis should contact their local physician.
