January 24, 2003 - Orlando, FL - Florida Hospital's ability to build the newly-granted
hospital is seriously threatened by the increasing severity of the medical liability
crisis.
Commenting on the recently-granted Certificate of Need (CON) by the Florida Agency of Health Care Administration, Rich Morrison, Regional Vice President of Government Relations for Florida Hospital, said, "The medical liability crisis has radically changed our environment. Over the last six months, we have seen our physician resources significantly constrained. We are currently fighting just to maintain services at our seven hospital campuses. Today, we could not add another facility without a major increase in doctors."
Florida Hospital President
Don Jernigan said, "These challenges will be discussed in the February
meeting of the Florida Hospital Board of Directors, which includes doctors and
community leaders. We will continue to work with the Oviedo community to find
creative solutions for their healthcare needs."
